Therapeutic Approach

I use these therapeutic approaches:

  • Cognitive Behavior Therapy
  • Cognitive Processing Therapy for PTSD
  • STEPPS skills training for Borderline Personality Disorder/Emotional Intensity Difficulties
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
  • Mindfulness
  • Self-compassion

My therapeutic approach is informed by my belief that we are all humans riding on the struggle bus. Whether you’re the driver or a passenger, have a window seat or are sitting on the tire hub, to struggle is to be human. But the struggle can be lessened.

As a Registered Social Worker with a Master of Social Work degree, my therapeutic approach is informed by my belief that we are all humans riding on the struggle bus.

Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) helps you understand the struggle in your life. Your personal history and perception greatly influence the ride you are on. Let me help you take a step-back from life’s difficulties and develop a plan for moving forward.

Experience has shown me that people want to be supported and validated while learning skills that work in the long-term. The CBT Certification I’ve earned allows me to provide this to you.

Whether you struggle with anxiety, depression, PTSD, borderline personality disorder or other mental health challenges, we can explore these areas together in our individual therapy. I will help you understand how your thoughts and behaviors affect how you feel. Self-compassion and mindfulness will be infused in to this cognitive behavioral approach.

If you appreciate an authentic helper with a drive for providing evidence-based therapy, call or email me to set up an appointment.

My bus has a pride flag on it.

About Self-Compassion

Instead of mercilessly judging and criticizing yourself for various inadequacies or shortcomings, self-compassion means you are kind and understanding when confronted with personal failings – after all, who ever said you were supposed to perfect?

With self-compassion, we give ourselves the same kindness and care we’d give to a good friend.

About Mindfulness

Mindfulness is the basic human ability to be fully present; aware of our thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and surrounding environment through a gentle, nurturing lens.

Mindfulness helps us to not be overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around or inside of us. Instead, it allows us to remain grounded and respond thoughtfully to ourselves and our environment.
The cognitive behaviour therapist helps individuals with mental health concerns by utilizing evidence-based techniques and strategies to create positive changes in their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.

Okay, but how does CBT, self-compassion and mindfulness all go together?

Think of CBT, self-compassion, and mindfulness as interconnected threads in the tapestry of mental well-being. So, when we weave these three elements together we create a powerful tapestry of self-discovery and healing. It’s about increasing our self-awareness, noticing patterns, and embracing ourselves with kindness and understanding, all while staying rooted in the present moment.
